It has been a while since I have posted and a lot has happened. My sister-in-law, Joni gave birth to my beautiful niece Layla on Wednesday, April 20th. She endured somewhere around 30 hours of labor after being induced and put on a maximum amount of Pitocin. I won't get into all of the specifics but it was brutal for her. However, she did it! I am so proud of her! Layla was 6lb 4oz and 20 inches long. Joni's water was broken over 24 hours before giving birth and she wasn't given any antibiotics so both her and the baby had an infection. On Friday, Layla took a turn for the worse and was life flighted to a children's hospital 100 miles away where she had emergency surgery done. They discovered she had a tiny hole in her bowel which was making her stomach swell and turn red. It also caused her to spit up green stuff. She is still in the children's hospital and will be there for at least another 3 weeks but she is slowly getting better because they were able to repair the hole. She has to go into surgery again tomorrow to close up her incision and then they will slowly get her eating and want to make sure her bowel and intestines work properly before they release her. She is a TOUGH little girl!!! My heart aches for Josh and Joni...I can't imagine how difficult it has been for them. All I do know is that they have a fighter there and she won't let anything get her down! There have been tons of people praying for her and it just proves that the power of prayer really does work!!! I will keep you updated on Layla's progress.
As for me...we are doing really great in the 2nd trimester now! I had my blood results from my glucose test and first trimester screening. Baby tested negative for cystic fibrosis and all other diseases. My glucose levels were PERFECT so I get to stop taking Metformin!!! YEAH!!! Blood pressure is perfect, I am not anemic, and weight gain is only at +2 pounds. My doctor said things couldn't be better. We also got to hear the heartbeat on the doppler and it was the most amazing sound I have ever heard!!! Also, I have my NT scan scheduled for tomorrow. They waited until the LAST possible day to get it done...slackers!
I will post pictures of the ultrasound tomorrow....until then, here is my 13 week bump!
